Check-list for important decisions
A checklist of questions to ask yourself before making an important decision:
✅ What exactly will the process look like from making the decision to achieving the goal?
✅ How can the success of the process be measured?
✅ What and when should evaluations be done?
✅ What is likely to go wrong in the process?
✅ What else is likely to go wrong?
✅ What will we do if the risks come true?
✅ How will this decision affect people, processes, relationships and outcomes within the organization?
✅ How and on whom will this decision affect outside the organization?
✅ What within my expertise might I have missed?
✅ What expertise am I missing to make an informed decision?
✅ What expertise and who might be missing during the implementation of the decision?
The result is an understanding of the landscape in which you will next operate, setting cutoffs and criteria for assessing progress. Next - assessing the risks, and the potential impact. And something that is often forgotten: checking blind spots. What don't I know about the field I'm stepping into, and who can help me sort it out?
Check - and it's sure to work out!
